President's Corner
by Donna Bobbish

My first words in this space must be to acknowledge and thank Mike Mann for his outstanding contributions to the Tara Woods community during his tenure on the Board of Directors, including five years as President.  His steady leadership allowed the community to resolve many important issues, including the maintenance of the Tara Woods fences and the boat dock reconfiguration, to name just two.  Mike leaves some large shoes to fill.

A big welcome to our new Board members, Dick Lear, who also was elected Vice President, and Bob Wilson.  Dick and Bob join our other Directors, Bart Cameron, Cherish Dahm, Jim Holland, Russell Smith, Jack Perrigo, who was reelected Treasurer, and Dave Bolden, who was reelected Secretary.

Spring is here -- at last -- and is particularly welcome after the overwhelming snowfalls we all endured this past winter.  (Not that I don't enjoy snow, but I've learned that "working from home" is not all that it's cracked up to be.)  Scott and I are eager to get our boat in the water and start enjoying the lake.  Speaking of boats, the gate at the Marina has been sent out for repair.  Also, we recently had a couple more successful auctions for boat slips, the proceeds of which go toward offsetting the cost of the boat dock reconfiguration.  There still are some Category I and II slips available, so now is the time to think about whether you want a boat slip upgrade.  Check the TWPOA website for guidance as to how to request an auction.

The TWPOA Annual Membership Meeting will be held at the Pavilion at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 15, 2010.  I urge everyone to attend to meet neighbors, bring your ideas to the Board, and hear briefings on neighborhood/home security and fire safety.  Since last summer, safety and security issues have become increasingly important to community members, and the Board is considering , among other things, whether Tara Woods should pursue the installation of one or more dry fire hydrants.  We also will receive the Treasurer's Annual Budget Summary and hear about the planning for the July Fourth Parade and Picnic.  (Never too early to start designing your float!)  Looking forward to seeing you there.
Here's to a happy, healthy and safe Summer 2010 for all!

Treasurer's Report
by Jack Perrigo

As of March 1, 2010  the association collected $19,056.41 and paid out $1,333.58.  Since then we have collected more dues and there are only 4 members who have not paid.  I expect to get the dues from 2 of the members soon.  The last two will probably be brought up to date when the properties sell.

Most of the expenses were paying taxes ($619), Tax preparation ($200).  Since March I have paid the insurance, which is about $2,400.  I have also prepared checks for the director’s fee which total $2,000.  Dave Bolden has declined his fee and asked that his fee be placed in the boat slip fund.

Property Manager Update
by Jack Perrigo

I have taken the gate to Ashland to have it repaired.  While I was out of town, I emailed the company to get a status on the gate, but have not heard from them.

I re-decked the little dock at the ramp.  I have to trim it and add 2X6s to cover the rough edge of the board.  I will also add a bumper to the side of the launching pier to protect the users boat and the dock.

Spring is here and it’s time to get your lawn mowers out of storage.  Remember that Tara Woods has height limits on the grass.  If the association has to mow for you, the fee is $150.

Dogs Running Loose

Property owners are reminded that dogs are required to be on a leash when not on their own property.  The Tara Woods covenants, Article VII, Paragraph G states, "All Dogs shall be under leash when off owner’s lot."

Home owners that rent their property should ensure their tenants are aware of this requirement. Thank you for abiding by our covenants.
